A call to ACTION
Do you want to make a change in your community? As part of the Indigenous young women’s leadership project - we’re encouraging you to take action about something that matters to you.
Who can apply?
We are inviting the participants and applicants of the Indigenous Young Women: Speaking Our Truths, Building Our Strengths National Gathering to apply. We encourage you to apply as an individual or as a group of young women; if you know someone who did not apply to attend the gathering, you can apply together.
Self-identified young Indigenous women between the ages of 16-25, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit, status or non-status, beneficiary or non-beneficiary. Those who identify as women, Trans, Two-Spirit, or gender non-conforming are welcome.
Of course, you can invite other members of your community to participate in your community action. We encourage you to include mentors and Elders.
You do not need to be linked to an organization to apply for funding.
What do we mean by community?
Community does not necessarily have to be a geographic location or even where you are from. Community can be a group of friends, people you are working with, a group at your school or a youth council. It can be somewhere in the city, on the reserve, in your territory, northern community, anywhere! We are interested in finding out who you consider to be part of your community.
What kind of action can you take?
The sky is the limit as long it’s an issue that is important to you, well rooted in your reality and is linked to your community.
Community actions should directly involve Indigenous young women in their planning and organization. As well, they should focus on Indigenous young women’s empowerment in the face of violence prevention and/or youth empowerment.
